Co-existence and Co-Prosperity: Seminar on China-Thailand Water Resources Cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong River Basin

On July 23, the "Co-existence and Co-Prosperity: Seminar on China-Thailand Water Resources Cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong River Basin," hosted by the Institute of Area Studies of Peking University (PKUIAS) and co-organized by Klangpanya Institute for National Strategies, a think tank in Thailand, was held online. More than ten experts and scholars from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Peking University (PKU), Tsinghua University, Sun Yat-Sen University  and China (Kunming) Institute of South Asia and Southeast Asia, together with scholars from Thai scientific research and social institutions participated in the seminar.


The seminar had two sessions: the first session was idea exchange. Experts and scholars at present conducted in-depth discussions on important issues such as promoting the sustainable development of the Lancang-Mekong River Basin, water resources cooperation, and water resources information sharing. The discussion was presided over by Ms. Yuwadee Kardkarnklai, executive deputy director and project research director of Klangpanya Institute. The second session was presenting the joint initiative. Dr. Yannik Mieruch, a young research fellow from Klangpanya Institute, Thailand, announced the joint initiative of China-Thailand Academic Community on the promotion of Lancang-Mekong water resources cooperation.
