Triple Alliance for the Promotion of Area Studies 1st TA Young Scholars Digital Workshop (Academic term 2022/23)

A Triple Alliance for the Promotion of Area Studies between Freie Universität Berlin (FUB), Peking University (PKU) and the University of Tübingen (UT) has been formally launched in June 2021. Its major objective is to promote academic exchange and research collaboration between the three partner universities in the field of area studies. For that purpose, the TA, via its coordinating bodies – the Graduate School of East Asian Studies (GEAS) at FUB, the Institute of Area Studies (IAS) at PKU and the China Centre Tübingen (CCT) at UT – organizes different exchange formats and runs a grant programme.

For the coming academic term 2022/23 the TA invites PhD students and Postdocs of the three partner universities to present their research in area studies at the first digital TA Young Scholars Workshop. No specific area or topical focus is defined for this initial event, but all presenters should clarify their theoretical approach to the area (region, country), explain their methodology and discuss their preliminary findings, The TA Young Scholars Workshop offers an excellent opportunity to present research to a national and international audience.

Depending on the number of submissions, the workshop will be held at various occasions over the term to be scheduled on a Friday morning 9:00 German time/ Friday afternoon 16:00 Beijing time. Each presenter is assigned 30 minutes to introduce his/her project, followed by another 60 minutes of intensive discussion among participants.

This first workshop will be hosted by the CCT at the University of Tübingen. The final selection of presentations will be conducted by the TA Coordination Committee. Project descriptions (no more than 1 page) and a brief CV of the applicant shall be submitted to chinaforum@cct.uni-tuebingen.de. Submission deadline is September 15th.
