Zhang Yongle serves at Peking University as Deputy Director of the Institute of Area Studies, Associate Professor of the School of Law, and Deputy Director of the Office of Humanities and Social Sciences. He works on history of Western political/legal thought, history of international law, International relations, modern Chinese constitutional history and political history, and East Asian intellectual history. His research focuses on topics like nation/state building and constitutional changes, empire and international law, political party and political representation, as well as political and legal ethics. His works include Remaking An Old Country: 1911-1917 (Beijing: Peking University Press, 2011, 2016), The Rivalry of Nations: Kang Youwei and the Decay of the Vienna System (Beijing: Commercial Press, 2017) and Shifting Boundaries: A Global History of the Monroe Doctrine (the Chinese edition by Beijing: SDX Press, 2021, the English Edition by Leiden: Brill, Forthcoming).
