The 14th session of the Youth Salon series hosted by the Institute of Area Studies, Peking University (PKUIAS) was held on June 28, 2025. The theme of the salon was “Legal Construction and Sovereignty Games in the Governance of Modern Western Empires.” The keynote speakers were Shi Qing, postdoctoral fellow of PKUIAS, and Gao Chengyuan, PhD candidate of the Department of History, Peking University. Shi Yue, tenured professor of the School of Foreign Languages, Peking University, served as the moderator of the seminar. Zhang Yongle, deputy director of PKUIAS and tenured associate professor at the Law School, Peking University, and Yuan Jian, professor of the School of Ethnology and Sociology, Minzu University of China, served as commentators. Ning Ya, lecturer at the School of History, Renmin University of China; Li Limin, assistant research fellow of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Liu Qingyuan, lecturer at the School of History, Capital Normal University; and Jiang Yang, postdoctoral fellow at the School of History, Capital Normal University, participated in the discussion.
